Barrisī-ye Taṭbīqī-ye Mahdawīyyat dar Riwāyāt-e Shīʿa wa Ahl-e Sunnat (Persian: بررسی تطبیقی مهدویت در روایات شیعه و اهل‌سنت, lit. a comparative study on Mahdism in Shi'a and Sunni narrations) is a book in Persian that discusses Mahdism as evident from Shi'a and Sunni narrations through a comparative approach. It is written book Mahdi Akbar Nizhad and printed by Bustan Ketab.[1]

Book Overview

The author begins by presuming that Mahdism is an Islamic belief not merely a Shi'a one, and thus, introduces relevant works by both Shi'a and Sunni, notwithstanding their exclusivity (being about Imam Mahdi (a) alone or sources of narration that include hadiths about Imam Mahdi (a)).

In chapter one, the author analyzes historical process under which Mahdism-related hadiths were developed through Sunni hadith collections. Later, he starts making evaluations and investigates hadiths' frequencies through both written and oral statements of scholars of ahl al-Sunna. Shi'a narrations are, likewise, carefully investigated. In chapter two, the author discusses hadiths and commonalities between the two prominent denominations. In chapter three, the author reflects on some of the commonly marked differences of opinion existent in both Shi'a and Sunni sources of hadiths such as birth, father's name, interpreting narrations of the infallibles and Imam Mahdi's (a) lineage (a controversy on whether he descends from Imam Hasan (a) or Imam al-Husayn (a)). The final chapter provides a collection of critiques on Mahdism.[1]
